About us

We aim to promote and advance the amateur sport of flat green bowls for the public benefit by the povision of facilities for the recreational and leisure time occupation and general social welfare of the local community, with the purpose of improving their physical and mental health particularly by the provision of bowling and associated activities.  At New Delaval Knights, we promote an honest and inclusive atmosphere because we know that happy members make the best ambassadors. We want all of our players, as individuals as well as club members, to be successful in their bowling journey. Not only will you experience a fun, yet competitive environment, you will find yourself making lifelong friends and extending your family. As a club that is always evolving and in constant pursuit of making the bowling community more diverse, we welcome people of all genders, young and old, with open arms - everyone has what it takes to be a knight!

My dad was the first to take up bowls, I was aged 10 at the time. I happened to go to the park 1 night to watch and the park keeper took me on to the green to try the sport for the 1st time. I think I was probably on the green more than anyone else in the club that season (and maybe a few more). The following season I was playing for the county under 25 team and the county 2nd team. I've made a lot of friends from all over the country. Both my parents have qualified for the national finals, as well as my 2 eldest kids. It's the family and friendship elements that make the sport unique.

I spent many summer weekends as a child being part of the bowling community and watching my grandparents play bowls. I decided to start and play aged about 14 and fell in love with the sport! I took a break from bowls when I went to uni and then life got in the way for a while, but I started playing again when I was 30 and fell in love with it all over again! It really is a sport for all ages and I look forward to playing bowls and being part of the bowling community for many years to come! As a trustee of New Delaval Knights I intend to support the development of the club in any way I can and advocate for a change in ladies bowls to encourage the involvement of those who are still in education or work.

I was first introduced to the game by my grandad, I went along to watch him play and realised that most of the players were alot younger. I decided to have a go and I've been hooked ever since. I'm certainly not the best player, but I try my best and I'm extremely proud of my National title. I want to break the stigma that its just a sport for the older generation. This is a game for all ages and abilities, who wouldn't want to see different generations of a family enjoying their time and competing together

I lived on the street of a bowling club in Derby. It started by watching my dad play bowls in 1988. It didn’t take long to get involved, all of a sudden it was every night after school. I’ve given 100% ever since and look forward every year to improving. I want to grow the sport, make it accessible and leave a platform for generations to come to enjoy like I have with their friends and family.

I started bowling in my late twenties then had to leave playing as I moved across country for work. Coming back to The North East I joined my old club again in County Durham for a season but then moving to Blyth 5 years ago (2017) meant that travel was not practical. Living next door to the green I couldn’t resist starting again and was made very welcome here at the, now named,  New Delaval Knights. My aim as Trustee is to help raise funds and engage with our local community and build a successful club now and for the future.
